Download the Program for the 2010 Conference

HSAC has been holding its annual conferences for nearly three decades under the umbrella of the Canadian Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences’ Congress which convenes each year on the campus of a different Canadian university. In 2010 the Federation’s Congress will be meeting at Concordia University, in the heart of Montreal, from May 28 to June 4. Over seventy scholarly associations will be participating. For further information visit the Congress’ website: www.congress2010.ca For information on tourism in Montreal visit the Montreal Chamber of Commerce website: www.tourisme-montreal.org.

Since the main theme of the Congress this year will be “Connected Understanding/Le savoir branché” the focus of HSAC’s meeting will be Hungary-Canada connections. Of course papers on other themes, especially Hungarian-North American interactions, will be welcome. Papers given at HSAC conferences in the past have sometimes been published in the journal Hungarian Studies Review and/or the Association’s “Occasional Papers in Hungarian Studies” series. HSAC (along with HAS) is a co-sponsor of the HSR.

Please indicate your intention to attend our conference by sending us the title and an abstract of your proposed paper along with a short c.v. by January 29th 2010. You should also indicate what audio-visual equipment you will need. You can send these to me, Nándor Dreisziger (chair of the program committee): nandor@kingston.net or to one of the committee’s other members: Judith Szapor of Montreal’s McGill University (judith.szapor@mcgill.ca), or Christopher Adam of Ottawa’s Carleton University (christopheradam@sympatico.ca ). Chris is Montreal-based and is in charge of local arrangements for the HSAC Conference.

Anyone wishing to participate must become a member of HSAC and pay his or her membership dues. Please send a check ($45 for regular members, $30 for students and retired scholars) to our treasurer:

Mrs. Margit Lovrics
75 Graydon Hall Drive, suite 1804

These fees include subscriptions to the Hungarian Studies Review, the HSAC Newsletter, and to the Association’s Occasional Papers series.

The Federation’s main website is www.fedcan.ca. There will be very limited on-campus accommodation for those delegates who do not wish to stay in more expensive hotels. I assume these will be listed on the Congress’ website www.congress2010.ca and I will also try to get information on these to you in a later e-mail.

If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to me (or to Judith or Chris); and please excuse me if a call for papers for this conference reaches you more than once.
