It was founded in 1974 under the title the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epa.oszk.hu\/html\/vgi\/boritolapuj.phtml?id=01994\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Canadian-American Review of Hungarian Studies<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>by Prof. N\u00e1ndor Dreisziger. The journal has been published under its current title since 1981. Prof. Dreisziger stepped down as its editor in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Hungarian Studies Review<\/em> is sponsored by the\u00a0<strong>Hungarian Studies Association of Canada <\/strong>and the\u00a0<strong>Hungarian Studies Association<\/strong>\u00a0based in the US. It was supported in the past by the\u00a0<strong>National Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi Library of Hungary <\/strong>which set up a home page for the <em>Hungarian Studies Review<\/em> on which the entire text of the journal\u2019s issues between 1981 and 2020 is available. Since the 2019-2020 issue, the journal has been published by Penn State University Press, and is available online through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarlypublishingcollective.org\/psup\/hungarian-studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scholarly Publishing Collective<\/a><\/strong> platform.<\/p>\n<p><em>HSR<\/em> dedicated two full articles to the history of the journal, one in the 2019-20 issue (\u201c<em>HSR<\/em>: A History of New Beginnings and a Tribute to Founding Editor Na\u0301ndor F. Dreisziger\u201d by Steven Jobbitt and \u00c1rp\u00e1d Klim\u00f3) and one in the first issue of 2021 (\u201cA History of Hungarian Studies as Reflected in Forty-Seven Years of Scholarship: <em>Hungarian Studies Review<\/em>, 1974\u20132020,\u201d by \u00c1rp\u00e1d Klim\u00f3, Leslie Waters, and Steven Jobbitt).<\/p>\n<p>Membership fees in the <strong>Hungarian Studies Association of Canada<\/strong> and the <strong>Hungarian Studies Association<\/strong> include a subscription to the journal.
