HSAC Annual Conference
May 28-30, 2011
The 2011 Conference of the Hungarian Studies Association took place at the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University between May 28-30, 2011.
Renowned Liszt scholar Alan Walker, FRSC (McMaster University), presented a lecture entitled “Franz Liszt: The cultural ambassador of the 19th century.”
The lecture was followed at 8 pm by a piano recital of Liszt’s music entitled “Liszt the Voyager”, performed by Juno-award winning concert pianist Valerie Tryon. This two-part special event was open to all Congress delegates and members of the community. This unique musical event marks International Liszt Year and the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, and was sponsored by the Hungarian Studies Association of Canada and the Canada-Hungary Educational Foundation, with support from the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of New Brunswick, and St. Thomas University.
